May Day demonstrations in Kreuzberg

re-painting the wall

for the 20th anniversary of the wall coming down they are washing off the grafitti from the remaining part, painting it white and then getting the original artists to come and repaint it again!
what????!

another epic cycle ride...

18.6 miles.
That is how far we went to find a lake, eat sloppy picnic, drink warm frusshed-up beer, and get eaten by mosquitos.
It was fun though.

derelict fairground in Treptower park

its all fenced off and there was a security guards patrolling around with a large bitey, foaming at the mouth dog so we were a bit unsure whether we should risk hopping over the fence but we really wanted to! Must be braver next time.

coots

we watched these coots making a nest on the river Spree.
Congratulations to the happy couple!

BIRTHDAY BONANZA continued into the night...

the night was electrified !
(see my hair, don't know what happened there)

ahoy there

So it was my birthday on Wednesday, so we went for a day trip to Schlachtensee, which is only 30mins from the centre of Berlin. We had enormous picnic overlooking a lake, Sara can be seen holding a large jar of gherkins which we promptly consumed. We then had lots of fun messing about in a boat.

BIRTHDAY BONANZA!

Sara invited all these people to my birthday breakfast!

Spreewald maidens

We went on a day trip to Spreewald, it is one of the most idyllic places we have ever come across and is renowned for its picked gherkins and cucumbers (which is why we went). The main form of transport is rowing boat, as it is made up of many canals and streams. However we took our bikes on the train and cycled from village to village. We don't have any photos as we forgot the camera, however these ladies represent it quite spiffingly. We'll definitely be going back.
